We're currently looking for new lawyers to get involved with the Free Wills Month campaign.
Free Wills Month brings together a group of well-respected charities to offer members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their simple Wills written or updated free of charge by using participating lawyers in selected locations. The next Free Wills Month campaign will be in Manitoba and Saskatchewan during May 2021, with the following charities so far committed to the campaign: ALS Society of SK, Canadian Parks & Wilderness Society (CPAWS), Cancer Foundation Saskatchewan, Ducks Unlimited, Hospitals of Regina Foundation, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Winnipeg Humane Society and 4-H Manitoba. This will be the first Free Wills Month campaign in the Prairies.
It is also expected that Free Wills Month campaigns will take place in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Prince Edward Island during 2021: planning is naturally affected by COVID-19, but the level of public participation in the October 2020 campaigns makes us optimistic that we will be able to run this valuable service in every province except Québec in 2021. It is only the different legal structure in Québec that prevents charities organizing a campaign there but it is hoped that a variant of the Free Wills Month model, acceptable to the legal authorities in Québec, will be available soon.
An up to date Will written by a lawyer ensures your wishes are respected. It also avoids difficult decisions and legal complications for your loved ones. Free Wills Month allows you to provide for family and friends and leave a gift to your chosen charities too. A gift in your Will costs you nothing now but can make a difference for years to come.
Should you like further information about Free Wills Month, or would like to be put on a waiting list for information about the next campaign in your province, please email [email protected] You will receive an acknowledgement and, in due course, updates about future relevant Free Wills Month campaigns.
An up-to-date Will gives you peace of mind, knowing your affairs are in order. It also helps your closest family at a particularly difficult time for them.
Of course, it’s an opportunity to help some great charities at the same time. Gifts in Wills are vital to charities. Many charities depend on them for up to half their income.
Please leave your details below and we'll send you a reminder when the campaign starts in your area.
Please could you spare one more moment to let us know which charities you would be most interested in supporting in your Will.
Members of the public aged 55 and over contact one of the firms of lawyers taking part in a Free Wills Month campaign during the designated month to request an appointment.
The lawyer will help to draw up a Will that accurately reflects the wishes of the individual or couple. Those taking up the offer are under no obligation to leave a gift to one of the Free Wills Month charities, however, we earnestly hope that many will see this as a chance to help their favourite cause.
Appointments are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Once all available appointments are booked the campaign will close, this may be before the end of the campaigning month.
Free Wills Month is intended for individuals or couples aged 55 and over. In the case of couples making ‘mirror’ Wills, it is sufficient that one has reached the age of 55.
No. The only documentation that is sent on to us is the confidential declaration form which asks questions such as where people heard of the campaign, their age and whether or not they have left a gift to one or more of the Free Wills Month charities.
We have agreed that the campaign will cover the writing of ‘simple’ Wills. If your Will needs some more work, the lawyer may ask you to pay the balance yourself, however, most people only require simple Wills.
Please email Toni Andreola at [email protected]; or call – Toni direct on 604-809-7112 or the Free Wills Month office on 647-351-7342. Free Wills Month campaigns run in most provinces.

Please download our free Will guide and complete it as fully as you can before your meeting. This will help you think through some of the aspects of writing a Will and it will enable the lawyer to help you more effectively.
